If you interested in maximizing the quality of products images in an OXID e-Sales shop, a setting of 0 to 100 is available in /admin/ which defines the quality level gdlib applies while processing images while uploading them from backend.

Deactivating OpenID (starting OXID CE 4.3.1)

Starting OXID 4.3.1, it is possible to deactivate OpenID as an authentication mechanism. In order to do this, go to Master Settings > Core Settings > Settings > Shop Front-end.

Notice also the other options that can be convieniently deactivated.

OXID e-Sales Parent Products of Variants Purchasable

OXID e-Sales software provides an extremely advanced mechanism to enchange core products using the concept of Variants. While a whole chapter can be written about use of Variants in OXID and their general implication on shop-owner’s bottom-line, this blog-post simply shows how to make a “Parent” article purchasable/non-purchasable.

In order to set the Purchasable/non-Purchasable status of Parent Products (with Variants contained within them), set:
Master Settings > Core Settings > System > Variants > “Parent” Products can be purchased on/off.

Productive Mode for OXID Shop

Fresh adopters of the OXID e-Commerce software will notice that the system is set to Productive Mode checked off. Many wonder what this setting actually does.

This setting deletes some of the temporary cache files used by the SMARTY template system stored in the /tmp/ folder on a regular basiss. It makes sense to keep this setting unchecked during development stages of the shop. If Productive Mode is checked on, the temporary files are preserved, which increases shop performance/speed.

Note that I’ve said only some of the temporary cache files are emptied if this setting is off. Indeed many of the tmp files are preserved, which cause unexpected behaviour during the development stages and cause panic to developers sometimes. If you are an active developer, use this module from Musterdenker for emptying all cache files from /tmp during the whole development phase.

Memory Error on OXID CE 4.2 for Gutschein/Coupons

Using wget for Downloading latest OXID CE

The OXID CE Download page doesn’t offer a direct link to download the latest distribution using wget, rather just a button.

If you’d like to download the latest version of OXID CE to your CLI-run servers using wget, use http://bit.ly/download-oxid-ce.

The file will be placed on your disk as index.php, which you will have to rename.

41 Projects in 9 months and counting!

The OXID bug bit us back in May/June 2009 when we got to know the product and the community at the OXID Commons 2009.

We did an inventory of the projects we have undertaken since then, and the score right now is 41 projects in the last 9 months, and counting! This includes OXID-modules development, full-sites and template customizations.

We are looking forward to hit the 50 project within mark in Q2-2010, and thank our customers for giving us this incredible opportunity:)

Simple .htpasswd Password Protection for OXID Shops

If your shop is under development and you’d like to restrict access to it from the public (or search-engine crawlers), you may use .htpasswd Authentication for temporarily locking down your site. Offering .htpasswd Authentication entails the following steps:

Generate a password file using the htpasswd command, which contains the authorized users and their respective hashed passwords
Place directives in your OXID shop’s .htaccess file to require a match of username/password from this file.

To generate a password file

# .htpasswd -c /home/some_nonwww_path/pwd_file admin

Upon running this command, a new password is requested for the user “admin”

Include this block of directives in your OXID Shop’s .htaccess file

AuthUserFile /home/some_path/pwd_file

AuthGroupFile /dev/null

AuthName “OXID Shop Owner’s Area”

AuthType Basic
